Your Mokoro safari will begin as you head out into the many reed channels of the Okavango Delta. Your guide will already have an update of any exciting or special sightings in the area. Most guides are from the Bayei tribe who many believe to be the first inhabitants of the Okavango Delta, “people of the Delta” so to speak. You will learn about all aspects of this magical inland oasis from the tiniest of creatures, beautiful reed frogs and big 5 mammal species along the water’s edge. Your guide will also interpret nature in a unique manner and show you traditional and medicinal uses of wild plants in the Delta.

A stop will be made on one of the many islands to enjoy your packed lunch before heading on a nature walk discovering more of this abundant ecosystem. After relaxing, you will continue your adventure exploring more of these unlimited channels and choosing to stop at any other islands as you please. Returning at 16:00pm.

Picnic snacks and refreshments are included in safari activities. You will continue with your exciting adventure while your game ranger uses his exceptional skills to interpret wildlife to you in a unique way.

Your long day on safari will end typically with drinks of your choice on the wooden deck overlooking the sunset over the Boteti River while the coolness of the evening sets in, discussing all the excitement and amazing sightings of the day. Followed by dinner typically under the stars in the open Boma. You will overnight in a luxury safari tent.

  • Day 7: Scenic Flight

The sounds of the bush will wake you up on this beautiful morning. A delicious breakfast and freshly brewed coffee will be served.

Today you will enjoy a scenic fight over the Okavango Delta. Enjoy a breath-taking flight in your own private aircraft over the Okavango Delta. The Okavango Delta is a vast inland river delta in Northern Botswana, known for its sprawling grassy plains, which flood seasonally, turning the land into a lush animal habitat. Dugout canoes are used to navigate past hippos, elephants, and crocodiles. On dry land, wildlife includes lions, leopards, giraffes, rhinos, and more.

Depart from Maun Airport. Take in views of the beautiful channels that meander through the papyrus-fringed waterways, passing palm-covered islands. Gear up for high chances of heart-stopping excitement and big game viewing. Observe how the channels wander through the delta in ever-changing paths as this dynamic water system evolves. The vastness of this pristine wilderness is breath-taking.

Picnic snacks and refreshments are included and will be served once you “hit the ground”.

Afterwards, you will have some time to freshen up and then join us around the open fire and enjoy your last night in Botswana. You will overnight in a luxury safari tent.

  • Day 9: Makgadikgadi Pans

Today we will make our way to the Makgadikgadi Pans. Makgadikgadi is a series of pans that make the area up to 12000 sq km, the largest of which are the Sowa and Ntetwe. Surrounding these two pans are number of smaller pans including Kudiakam, Nxai and Kaucaca to the north. No vegetation grows on these pans, but grasslands can be seen at the fringes along with huge baobab trees.

The Makgadikgadi National Park is an area of 3900 sq km that includes the western end of Ntwetwe in the east to the Boteti River in the west, southeast of the Okavango Delta and surrounded by the Kalahari Desert. The wet season provides many opportunities for good safaris as large herds of zebra and wildebeest start migrating towards the Boteti region. The other species spotted could be eland, kudu, hartebeest, bushbuck, giraffe, steenbok, gemsbok, duiker, springbok, elephant, rare brown hyena, lion and cheetah.

The dry season drives some animals away but the aardwolf, African wildcat, honey badger, kudu, meerkats, caracal, genet, ground squirrels, aardvarks, small bustards, and other desert-adapted creature stay. During the dry winter months, the migrations head westwards to the Boteti River to scoop up any remaining water, but many desert-adapted creatures remain resident.

After a beautiful day in the pans, we will make our way back to the lodge where a delicious dinner will be served.

  • Day 11: Speedboat Safari

After breakfast we will make our way to the nearest boat station where we depart on a thrilling speedboat safari.

Seeing wildlife from the water is a good alternative to game viewing from a safari vehicle, and in the Delta, you’re going to see a cross section of landscapes from narrow waterways to larger rivers, to huge lagoons. Some areas will be papyrus-lined, others will have jackal berry and other large trees on the banks and then you go through a few places where savannah is on one side and dense vegetation on the other. It’s picturesque and relaxing, and of course if game comes down to the edge of the water, you can get very close to them, for a different angle and hopefully some lovely photos.

Taking a motorboat trip is a very different experience from being in a mokoro. Afterwards we will return to the lodge where a delicious dinner will be served.

Horse riding in Botswana will stay with you forever. The riding safaris available are as varied as you could imagine, taking you from harsh dry desert-lands to delta wetlands. The riding here is fast-paced and incredibly exciting, with some of the horseback safaris even offering the chance to jump elephant-felled logs. As a result, Botswana has earned its place at the top of many riders’ bucket lists.
